Effects smoking can have on children

With the increase in the number of adults indulging in smoking, more and more children living in the same household or the neighborhood are increasingly at the risks that arise from it. Children have reduced immunity as their body is underdeveloped and are hence more vulnerable to diseases. Metabolism is another phenomenon that is different in the children from the adults, Due to their higher rates; children are much more prone to acquiring harmful diseases.

Because of higher rate of breathing in the children, the total intake of air is higher. If the air is polluted, there is a greater volume of smoke reaching the lungs. The larger the smoke more is the total amount of harmful entities like toxins. A child can be born under weight if the mothers have the smoking habit or have some syndrome which would have detrimental effects on their normal way of living such as reduced learning capabilities or weak muscles. In more severe cases, there are chances that the child would be born dead. No one would want to be at the receiving end of something like this.

Some common diseases that are associated with children who are constantly exposed to greater levels of cigarette smoking are asthma, which is a respiratory disease, bronchitis, which can reduce the proper functioning of the lungs, hearing problems due to increased fluid levels and reduced immunity which leads to the possibility of acquiring all other sorts of problems. There are medications available to control them in their early stages but they can only have a positive effect if they are not exposed to smoke anymore.

In order to keep the children safe, it is advisable to avoid smoking at all costs around them, especially for pregnant women. As far as possible, try to protect them from outside environment and keep them in the sanctity of the household.
