Smoking History
Do you know how peoples start smoking cigarettes?Smoking is nearly impossible to give up for many people. People claim that an addiction to cigarettes is more toilsome to break than an addiction to heroin. Therefore the cigarette market is still huge and the future for tobacco is still bright. And the research shows that it is evident that people will never leave smoking. History shows that tobacco companies had become multi million pound industries.
The tobacco became hurriedly popular and ruled our lives till now. It is believed that the growth of tobacco embarked in USA almost in 6000 BC. After sometime Mayans started to squash and burn the tobacco leaves and also started to blend tobacco leaves with aromatic plants and used them for medication. As the Mayan civilization scattered and resided in different regions throughout USA they carried this valuable tobacco plant with them.
Columbus was believably the first ever European to discover tobacco plant though he did not try smoking for years. Another adventurer, Rodrigo set ashore in the island of Cuba and noted some of the locals intoxicating themselves with the smoke of tobacco leaves. He after that advanced to share the smoking activity himself. On Jerez’s way back to Spain, he loaded himself with tobacco surprised the local people by smoldering boldly in front of them.
They have never seen smoke coming out of a man's oral cavity .Locals considered him as preoccupied by some evil spirits and Spanish Inquisition through him in captivity for a long time. During his custody, cigarettes and smoking fashion become a passion in Spain. In 1530 Europeans thought of it as prospective cash making activity and they decided to make their wealth from popular tobacco plant cultivation. And they started to grow tobacco in Caribbean, from where they exported the tobacco to European Community all over again.
It is aforementioned that in 1573, Francis Drake brought the first cargo of tobacco in England, While Sir Walter made smoking fashionable in English community. Sir Walter Raleigh ventured on a trip to the America in the year 1586 where he met Ralph Lane, the Lord of Virginia. He offered tobacco to Raleigh for the first time of smoking with a terracotta pipe, which was famous there in that time. Later on the colonists left England to subside in Virginia, returned back to England and inaugurated smoking clay pipes custom in English society.
Afterwards English families traveled to Virginia to grow tobacco and to get wealthy. The time during both World Wars, that smoking became vastly popular with people. Subsequently after the war the soldiers went back to their homes and presented cigarettes to their families, and smoking was revolutionized once again.
Then, medical research studied the effects of smoking and in 1950’s, first warning alarms were heard, as connections between smoking and lung cancer were unexpectedly reported.
